IBM bets $150 billion on America’s digital future

IBM is putting $150 billion on the table — in one single move.

Not out of generosity, but to take control of America’s digital future.

Over the next five years, it will invest a mountain of money into quantum computing and artificial intelligence.

More than $30 billion will go directly into research and development, mainly focused on mainframes and quantum computers.

IBM already operates the largest fleet of quantum computers in the world and plans to expand it even further to secure the United States’ leading position in this race.

And let’s not forget mainframes, which today handle over 70% of the world’s economic transactions.

It’s a staggering amount, following the massive investments already announced by Nvidia and Apple.

And yes, while it’s meant to push innovation forward, let’s be honest: when billions start flying around, politics and geopolitical tensions are never far behind.
