Cyberhumanism is a new philosophical approach to addressing the digital age. It promotes the maintenance of human values and ethics as priorities in technological development, particularly in artificial intelligence and its growing influence on society. Just as humanism guided the Renaissance, Cyberhumanism seeks to use technology for a human-centered future, ensuring that well-being, freedom, and ethical considerations guide the development and implementation of technologies.
The rise of the internet has blurred traditional geographical boundaries, leading to the emergence of "remote nationalism." This phenomenon sees individuals maintaining strong ties to their country of origin while living abroad, actively participating in political debates, and influencing cultural trends remotely. This challenges the traditional concept of territorial sovereignty, raising questions about the state's ability to regulate and control activities within its physical borders when individuals and communities are increasingly operating online.
The lack of transparency in artificial intelligence algorithms, particularly in foundational models, raises concerns about possible biases, lack of accountability, and potential misuse. These "black boxes" operate without a clear understanding of how they make decisions, making it difficult to address unintended consequences. This lack of transparency is especially concerning when AI is applied in sensitive areas such as healthcare, law enforcement, and national security, as it risks perpetuating existing societal biases and eroding public trust.
Computer ethics is essential in the AI era because it provides a moral compass to address the complex ethical dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence technologies. The key principles of computer ethics include:
• Human Well-being: Prioritizing the safety, dignity, and autonomy of individuals in the development and implementation of AI.
• Transparency and Accountability: Ensuring that AI systems are explainable, traceable, and accountable for their actions.
• Fairness and Non-discrimination: Preventing AI from perpetuating or amplifying existing social biases.
• Privacy and Data Protection: Safeguarding individuals' rights to privacy and control over their personal data.
• Environmental Responsibility: Minimizing the environmental impact of AI development and use, especially concerning energy and water consumption.
Digital awareness and culture are fundamental in enabling individuals to interact critically with technology, understanding both its potential and its risks. This entails:
• Critical Thinking: Evaluating online information, recognizing biases, and identifying misinformation.
• Data Literacy: Understanding the value of personal data, managing digital footprints, and protecting privacy.
• Ethical Considerations: Recognizing and addressing ethical dilemmas related to AI, automation, and online behavior.
• Digital Well-being: Promoting a healthy and balanced relationship with technology, managing screen time, and cultivating meaningful online interactions.

BCIs offer exciting possibilities in areas such as:

• Cognitive Enhancement: Potentially improving memory, attention, and learning abilities.
• Human-Machine Interaction: Creating more intuitive and seamless ways to interact with machines.
However, BCIs also raise concerns regarding:
• Mental Privacy: Protecting individuals' thoughts, emotions, and cognitive data from unauthorized access and manipulation.
• Informed Consent: Ensuring that people fully understand the risks and benefits of BCIs before consenting to their use.
• Equity and Access: Addressing disparities in access and benefits of BCI technologies.
"Privacy by design" is crucial in AI development to ensure that privacy considerations are integrated from the outset, rather than being treated as an afterthought. This involves:
• Data Minimization: Collecting and processing only the minimum amount of personal data necessary for a specific purpose.
• Purpose Limitation: Using personal data only for the purposes for which it was collected, with clear and transparent statements.
• Data Security: Implementing robust security measures to protect personal data from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
• Transparency and Control: Providing individuals with clear and accessible information on how their data is used and giving them control over it.
• Accountability: Establishing mechanisms to ensure responsible and ethical use of personal data.
Artificial intelligence, ethics, democracies at risk, and jobs taken over by robots—what can we do to keep humanity at the center? We live in an era of constant change, where digital technologies are radically reshaping how we live, work, and think.
AI is exponentially revolutionizing our capacity to process information and make decisions. Yet as we adopt these innovations, it’s crucial to consider their ethical and social repercussions.
Who’s accountable when an algorithm fails? How much should we rely on AI for critical decisions? And above all, what does this mean for humans in a world increasingly dominated by digital technology?
In this new era, a renewed humanistic approach—Cyberhumanism—is key, integrating ethics from the very start of the design process. We must reclaim control over technology without losing sight of essential human values. The future is here, and it’s up to us to shape it responsibly and thoughtfully, making sure the machines don’t end up making decisions for us.
